Learn cross-country ski skills, build fitness, and have fun in the snow!
The QRSC youth program is open to students from pre-K to eighth grade. The program focuses on progressive skill-building though age-appropriate exercises and fun activities. No prior experience is necessary. The season runs from the first full week in January through February vacation.
Levels: Students are grouped to receive instruction appropriate to their age and experience. Gold, Silver, Bronze based on experience
How will groups be selected? On the first day of practice all skiers will stay on a short loop near the yurt and within view of coaches. Coaches will record names and check-off skills performed to ensure each child is appropriately placed. THIS IS NOT A TRYOUT — WE WELCOME EVERYONE!!! It is just important that for the most enjoyable experience for all, that children be appropriately placed.
*NOTE for younger skiers. For skiers through Grade 1, parents are required to participate in all practices either on snowshoes or skis until “released” by coaches. When first learning, these youngest skiers need 1-on-1 attention and help getting up etc. Typically 3-4 practices is enough that kids can be on their own with coaches. This was how the club operated for many years and with our growing number of very young skiers, we need to bring back this rule for 2019-20.
Equipment: Skis, boots, and poles are available for seasonal lease. Keep them all season and ski any time. Registration coming soon! for best availability. We will hold an equipment fitting session in early December.
Volunteer Youth program director: Caroline Mathes – (207) 446-7356
All groups are led by experienced, trained volunteer coaches.
Additional volunteers with or without ski experience are always welcome.
