The CMSC High School Ski Team is open to skiers in grades 9 – 12 from any area school. The season runs from early November through mid-February.
Our comprehensive training program will cover fitness, technique, and equipment preparation, with individualized coaching and extensive on-snow time at Quarry Road Trails. Competitions will include events throughout the state with other high school teams. For those who qualify, the season will culminate with the NENSA U16 Championships.
Training is offered daily with a commitment of at least 3 weekday sessions and attendance at races required for participation.
New skiers ARE welcome — all over the state, brand new skiers compete in high school races every season. It is NOT too late to get started in skiing!
Our goals for CMSC’s high school athletes this season are:
- Have Fun!
- Advance in ability.
- Develop a life long love for Nordic skiing!
Head Coach Pat Cote
Pat founded the Central Maine Ski Club in 2008. For 12 years, Pat served as program then executive director for the New England Nordic Ski Association, working directly and indirectly to develop a high quality athlete development program in the region. As a skier racer Pat competed successfully at junior nationals, NCAA championships (for UVM and Dartmouth), and at US Nationals. His experience also includes time as a guide for the US Paralympic Team, assistant coach at Colby College, Head Coach at Vermont Academy, and Assistant Coach at Gould Academy. He’s excited to lead the coaching staff this year and coach his son Caden on this year’s team. In addition to coaching, Pat is a Friends of Quarry Road board member and chair of Central Maine Ski Club.
Assistant Coaches: Ole Amundsen and Charlie Cobb
We encourage all high school skiers to obtain proper fitting equipment for both classic and skate techniques. Proper fitting equipment goes a long way toward achieving successful results. We will assist athletes with proper gear selection and gitting.
Bus service to Quarry Road Trails is available from some local schools.
