The mission of the Central Maine Ski Club is to develop and implement ski programming for people of all ages and help create an active outdoor winter lifestyle for families in Central Maine. The club’s purpose is to 1) support and assist the growth and development of instructional ski programs; and 2) nurture the progress of our athletes’ ability by providing high quality training, coaching, and competition.
The club formed in October 2008 to support local skiers and build a youth program. Initially, skiing was at the North Street fields in Waterville. From the beginning we have worked closely with the Quarry Road Trails project and in 2013 formally partnered as a committee of Friends of Quarry Road, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. In 2016, the New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) honored CMSC as its club of the year. Central Maine Ski Club is a US Ski and Snowboard (USSA) member club.
Our main venue is Quarry Road Trails, which is owned and managed by the City of Waterville’s Department of Parks & Recreation and supported by the Friends of Quarry Road. Formerly owned by Colby and operated into the 1970’s (and earlier) as the “Colby College Ski Hill” there is a long history of skiing at this site. Read more about the area’s history here.
